Bring numbers to Parliament if you have them, Anwar challenges PN

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has dared his detractors from Perikatan Nasional to face him in Parliament at the upcoming sitting and prove their claims of an unstable federal administration.

In his speech at the Malaysia Madani Hari Raya open house held in UiTM Permatang Pauh, Penang today, Anwar said he was ready to face any opposition MPs in Parliament once the current session reconvenes at the end of this month.

"We will have the Parliament sitting in the next two weeks, and if they have the numbers, bring it!

"I will face the person who tables the motion, and we will battle in Parliament," said Anwar.

Earlier, Anwar took a veiled swipe at PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, who he did not refer to by name, but as a "former premier who avoided facing a similar challenge" in Parliament.

"A former prime minister chose to declare an emergency (and suspend Parliament).

"This prime minister has chosen to fight in Parliament if they have the numbers," he said.

"So, I hope this statement will put an end to all statements that attempt to destabilise the government.

"I am confident with our numbers (of MPs). We still stand with 148 MPs," Anwar stressed.

Fresh rumours

Rumours about a change of administration - or prime minister - started as soon as Pakatan Harapan formed an alliance with BN to form a federal government following the 15th general election last year.

Five months later, fresh rumours had resurfaced involving alleged attempts to force by-elections in BN-held seats with the elected representatives quitting their parties.

Addressing Penang governor Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, who graced the function together with his wife, Khadijah Mohd Noor, Anwar also apologised for using the festive occasion to address an issue that is not favourable for the people.

Others in attendance included Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and Penang Harapan leaders, as well as several federal and state Umno leaders. - Mkini
