PETALING JAYA: Efforts are being made by the education ministry to ensure all children have equal access to education, minister Fadhlina Sidek said today.

Speaking to reporters a day after the government said Malay and Bumiputera quotas would remain, Fadhlina said opportunities in education should also be given to other students.

“We are indeed in agreement with what the prime minister said (to maintain quotas) but at the same time at the ministry level we have many improvements in hand.

“I want to assure you that we are not marginalising anyone,” Bernama quoted her as saying.

“This is important, especially the Sixth Form that we are looking at and other opportunities to ensure that all our children have equal access to education. So no one will be marginalised,” she said.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the Malay and Bumiputera quota system must be maintained to balance the number of students in colleges and universities.

Fadhlina also spoke about the success of vocational colleges as the marketability of graduates is currently at over 90%.

There are 606 diploma programmes offered at vocational colleges.

“We need to spread the word to the public so that they are aware of the opportunities offered at our vocational colleges,” she said. - FMT
