YOURSAY | PM, Muhyiddin, explain how Felda piled up such huge debts

YOURSAY | ‘Giving money to Felda not an issue, but where is the transparency, accountability?’

Muhyiddin: Anwar doesn't deserve to remain as PM

Kilimanjaro: In my opinion, both (Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and former premier Muhyiddin Yassin) are dishonest and there is a lack or failure of leadership.

Giving the money to Felda settlers is and cannot be an issue. But where is the accountability and transparency?

Mind you, debts amounting to RM8.3 billion are being written off and I am pretty sure that this is not the first time. How did Felda pile up such huge debts?

Muhyiddin as the prime minister has no right or legitimacy to defend himself, what more accuse others. He stands in the dock failing to tell us how did Felda end up with such colossal debts.

Who knows, the money was spent in the name of the settlers but got hijacked by unscrupulous people. Or people who were irresponsible and lacked the knowledge and expertise were appointed. Please explain.

Who gave you the right to simply write off billions without telling how those billions piled up in the first place? Muhyiddin, you may have been the PM but you have no right to write off such a huge debt without explaining how did it come to that?

Who knows, one day someone may take you to court on this. Malaysians are not dumb anymore.

Anwar doesn’t fare any better. I have no problem with the writing-off part but why is he not explaining how did it pile up to the billions?

He had no problem in holding the funds on flood mitigation programmes until it makes sense why the allocated figures are so high, then why this apparent double-standard in the case of Felda?

Shouldn’t he explain how debts piled up so much? We re not talking about peanuts but billions of ringgit. Is this Anwar’s way of good governance? Talk is cheap, isn’t it?

Mazilamani: Muhyiddin for sure does not speak lies. However, to quote him, “Due to cash flow issues in Felda, the Pakatan Harapan-BN government could not continue to carry out the debt waiver initiative”.

If the PM is asked to resign for speaking the truth, Muhyiddin must be punished and banned from politics for many stealth acts.

What about the lie that RM300 billion was spent to revive the economy of the country but the PM said that only RM90 billion was spent? Where is the missing RM210 billion?

Undecided: Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional chairperson, has slammed Anwar for claiming he did not take any steps to waive Felda settlers’ debts.

“Anwar has accused me of not waiving Felda settlers’ debts. This is a big lie,” said Muhyiddin.

We know who is lying and it is not Anwar. If the debt is waived there must be official legal documents to substantiate it.

If there is anyone who did not deserve to be PM, it had to be you, Muhyiddin. You did it by betraying the people who voted for Harapan and your (former) colleagues in 2018.

'I stand by what I said': PM on Muhyiddin's Felda debt jibe

BOBBYO: What is the PM so proud of? RM8.3 billion of the taxpayers’ money written off?

Land and loans were given, yet the Felda farmers were not able to repay the debts they took. They were not able to deliver even after being given the rod and fish.

Is it true that every time an election is due, taxpayers have to pick up the tab?

This does not only concern Felda. How much more money was given away through the various government agencies to entice voters?

Is it because the administration in charge does not have the confidence to win the election? Have they not kept their word for the people to see their efficiency? Have they not delivered on their promises, that they need to bribe the voters indirectly?

Why have Malaysian politics, politicians, and even its voters reached such a level, that they need these handouts to decide which party to vote for?

Their votes in exchange for a fistful of ringgit. When are they going to mature?

ScallopEatMcD: We the rakyat now demand that the Madani government publish the Felda accounts to explain how this RM8.3 billion debt came about. Who stole the money and how does the Madani administration intend to recover it, and how soon?

Cowboy: Large portion of the debts were used to assist the Felda farmers to purchase the FGV shares upon listing. The money was paid to Felda/FGV to finance their operations, which FGV in particular may have irresponsibly spent on new investments with minimal or no returns at all.

Irrespective of who is the prime minister, the debt portion of the Felda farmers must definitely be written off to continue sustaining the farmers, FGV, and Felda.

However, the prime minister proved his commitment by allocating the first amount in budget 2023. The former prime minister (Muhyiddin) promised but did not commit or act to write off the debts. That’s the difference.

PM: Felda to receive RM1b yearly over next 10 years

Oct: It is good that the coalition government is stepping up to help Felda with RM1 billion yearly for 10 years. However, the government has no interest to catch the culprits who had caused such misery to the Felda folks.

In Malaysia, it portrays one can get very, very rich, be untouchable, and can also keep the loot. There is no accountability and responsibility by the management.

Felda was listed with the second-highest IPO in the world. All the money is gone. In the 1MDB scandal, Malaysians know the crooks, whereas at Felda, nobody is caught and no money has been recovered.

It is a clear case of abuse of power and corruption. No wonder our ringgit is so weak. Malaysia is well known as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. - Mkini
