No religious pluralism agenda at conference - minister

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Mohd Na’im Mokhtar yesterday refuted allegations that a conference in Selangor today has a religious pluralism agenda.

He said the International Conference of Religious Leaders 2024 will not even delve into matters of faith.

Speaking to reporters at a media briefing in Putrajaya yesterday, Na’im (above) said the event will focus on building a shared civilisation aimed at uniting the values of moderation and unity.

It will also discuss transforming conflicts into understanding and addressing the threat of extremist ideologies.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the conference, themed “Unity Within Diversity”, at Sunway Resort Hotel today.

Also slated to attend the event is Muslim World League (MWL) secretary-general Sheikh Mohammed Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who is also chairperson of the Organisation of Muslim Scholars.

Tomorrow, the Conference of Asian Religious Scholars will take place at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the capital.

Both events are organised by the Office of the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) and the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) in collaboration with MWL.
