As the Madani government enters into its third year in power, Bersatu has kick-started the party’s machinery in anticipation of a snap general election.
Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali said party president Muhyiddin Yassin had during a meeting yesterday underscored the importance of early preparations.
“In discussions this morning (Feb 7), the president stressed that all of Bersatu’s machinery must be mobilised now to face possibilities of a snap election at the end of this year,” said Azmin in a Facebook post yesterday.
“The discussions also focused on a highly convincing development that followed a special discussion among Bersatu and top PAS leaders on Feb 5, also attended by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Muhyiddin.
“The president (Muhyiddin) instructed Bersatu to launch an audit of the machinery’s strength in all states, particularly in the selected parliament and state seats,” said Azmin.
He added that Muhyiddin also urged all Bersatu leaders and members to uphold discipline and integrity, to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional component parties, as well as to serve the people.
Last month, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin said the Islamist party should lead the opposition coalition, citing its political strength compared to Bersatu.
For the record, PAS has 43 parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat to Bersatu’s 25. - Mkini
