PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has accused the opposition of disrespecting the law after the latter brought up the royal addendum issue involving former premier Najib Abdul Razak.
This came after the opposition asked him to explain whether the issue had caused a drop in investments in the country.
“How else am I to answer this? The case (royal addendum) is in court now. I have assured Parliament that I will answer it once the court process is over. Let’s see whether the opposition leader will be present or not.
“You (the opposition) can shout all you want but I know the facts. To ask me to touch on the royals’ position… that I won’t do but as for this case… you can check. I have consulted the rulers.
“Go and ask the Kelantan ruler. If permitted after the court process is over, I have promised to explain it,” Anwar said during the Prime Minister’s Question Time at the Dewan Rakyat today.
Earlier, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN–Machang) questioned whether the outflow of foreign capital from Malaysia was linked to the perception of corruption and the addendum issue, which could be deemed as affecting the country’s stability.
Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) followed up by criticising the prime minister’s response to the issue.

Touching on the alleged foreign capital outflow, Anwar questioned the opposition on its veracity.
“Where did you get this from? Investments have been increasing so don’t make this irresponsible statement. This is drivel, not based on facts.
“If you say we need to reform... say Bursa Malaysia, I can agree with that. There are changes to its leadership to allow reforms to take place.
“But you must understand our shares trading itself has soared to RM2 trillion,” he added.
‘No sub judice’
At a subsequent press conference, Hamzah denied that the issue of sub judice had arisen.
“That’s why I raised the question about investor confidence in the Malaysian government today, which is influenced by many factors, not just the addendum.
“But since the prime minister brought up the addendum, let me say this - the addendum was issued in January, but the affidavit was submitted several months before that. How is that sub judice?
“If there is openness and transparency, respond before the matter is taken to court. That’s one issue. But when it drags on for a year, perhaps investors start wondering - what’s going on with Malaysia? That’s why I also mentioned other examples,” he said. - Mkini
