
Saifuddin said that upon receiving the report of such a claim, he contacted the director-general of the prisons department to obtain a full report.
“An internal probe found that no such abuse had occurred,” he said at a press conference in Putrajaya.
Earlier today, Malaysiakini said the wife of a detainee at the Sungai Buloh prison lodged a police report after her husband had been admitted to hospital.
The woman alleged that her husband was taken to the Sungai Buloh hospital in an “incapacitated state, believed to be due to an assault”.
Saifuddin said the authorities will investigate the woman’s police report.
He said the detainees had gone on a hunger strike a few days ago, which had left them physically weak.
“So, when they were brought to hospital, they had to use the wheelchair,” he said.
He said he had handed the full report on the matter to the prime minister.
The Sosma detainees at the Sungai Buloh prison had gone on a hunger strike following claims of inadequate medical care and delayed trials. - FMT
