PETALING JAYA:
A thunderstorm in Kuala Lumpur has wreaked havoc, with reports of fallen trees and flash floods in the city centre.

According to City Hall’s (DBKL) Kuala Lumpur Control & Command Centre, a fallen tree had blocked off most of Jalan Kuching near the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim turn-off.

Traffic policemen are on site with four of the five lanes blocked off by the tree.

Flash floods were also reported on Jalan Kuching near the Segambut roundabout, with only one lane passable to vehicles in both directions due to floodwaters.

A tree had also fallen on Jalan 42/70 in Desa Sri Hartamas, completely blocking off the road between Jalan Puncak Kiara Utama and the Kerinchi Link exit, Astro Radio Traffic reported on X.

Earlier, the meteorological department warned of thunderstorms in most parts of the country, with heavy rain and strong winds expected until 7pm.

The forecast included the entire Klang Valley, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and Pahang, as well as large parts of Kedah, Perak, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah. - FMT
