The government is open to suggestions on reforming the appointment process for the MACC chief commissioner position, said its spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil.
“The government is always open to receiving views from various parties to improve anything, whether it be legislation or processes, in an effort to bring reform to important institutions,” he told a press conference at the Communications Ministry this evening.
The communications minister said the cabinet did not discuss the matter in its meeting today, neither did it discuss the possibility of an extension for MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki, whose tenure is scheduled to end in May.

Yesterday, the Center to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4 Center) called for the appointment process for the top MACC position to be decentralised.
It noted that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had provided Azam with two one-year extensions despite the latter having passed the mandatory retirement age.
6 more months?
This followed a Bloomberg report which cited sources as saying that Anwar is expected to extend Azam’s tenure by another six months.
Later, Free Malaysia Today quoted Anwar saying there was no decision yet regarding Azam’s tenure.
In the lead-up to the last general election, Anwar and other Pakatan Harapan leaders had frequently criticised Azam. - Mkini
