The man asked the 10-year-old, who was throwing rubbish, to accompany him to the waste disposal room of an apartment block.
Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the man was arrested after a police report was lodged by the girl’s mother.
Sinar Harian reported that the incident is believed to have taken place at an apartment complex’s waste disposal room at about 7am.
It said the girl, who was alone, met the suspect at a staircase after disposing of trash at the waste disposal room.
The suspect, who lives on the second floor, invited the girl to accompany him to the waste disposal room.
He then allegedly molested the girl and invited her to have a meal together.
The girl sought the help of the apartment’s security guards, the report said.
The mother, who was informed of the incident, lodged a police report the following day.
Police said they found a CCTV recording of the incident.
The suspect has been remanded until April 30 to assist in an investigation under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act. - FMT
