BUTTERWORTH: Police detained a senior citizen who was driving a school van against traffic along the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) here today.
A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abdul Rahman said the man, in his 70s, was detained by a police patrol car (MPV) passing through the area around 1pm today.
"The elderly man was driving against the traffic flow and claimed that he had taken the wrong route.
"Fortunately, no accident or untoward incident occurred at that time.
"The man was detained to assist with investigations under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said in a statement tonight.
Anuar said the man was driving alone during the incident.
Earlier today, a 73-second video surfaced showing a school van driving against traffic along the BORR.
However, the action was stopped when an MPV passing through the area took control of the traffic flow before apprehending the driver. - NST
