I am sure you would know what a jigsaw puzzle is.
It always tends to have only one solution.
These are building blocks.
They can be arranged in any way. You can build anything with them.
We have two ways for how we choose to live our lives.
You can either solve life like a jigsaw puzzle or build your life with blocks.
From our childhood, we are often made to believe that life has a certain pattern or design that should be followed.
Enter ‘that’ stream.
Choose ‘that’ career.
Get ‘that’ job.
Follow ‘that’ diet.
It makes life seem like a sort of a jigsaw puzzle already laid out messily on the table, waiting for us to solve it and get to the only solution.
What if, instead of looking at our lives as predetermined and inflexible jigsaw puzzles, we begin to look at our lives as a cluttered mess of building blocks?
Blocks waiting to be constructed into something brilliant!
Our lives cannot be a problem with only one uniform solution.
Everyone is unique.
It simply isn’t possible in a world where every individual has beautiful talents of their own.
Instead, if you look at life as a canvas to be impregnated with your creativity, free of any inhibitions and rigid rules, you will build your life.
You will mold it to your wishes.
You would use the colors that appeal to you.
You will craft your legacy.
Some simple things to follow:
- Be bold. People love an underdog story. It shows guts. It shows courage. It shows passion. Don’t be afraid to be bold. Being bold sets you apart from the crowd.
- When in doubt, ask the person out. Stop waiting for the perfect moment. Stop worrying about whether or not you have spinach in your teeth (or buy those little floss packs, for goodness sake). Stop wondering “what if”?Take a chance and say hello.
- Diversify your activities. If you go clubbing every weekend, you’re going to start to have the same kind of story to tell every time. And that’s boring. Challenge yourself to try new activities, like volunteering (the local food bank and Habitat for Humanity are two that I’ve done), running a half-marathon (just make sure you don’t wear a shirt - was that too much information?), hiking anand prabat which is in delhi, making a movie. Those are a few examples, but don’t let me hold you back. Expand your activities. It’ll expand your life.
- Throw dinner parties or events for friends. Ask them to invite their friends too. The more you expand your network and sphere of friends, the more you create the “Great Gatsby” effect. People almost always ask to meet the host of the party.
- Stop wondering, and start testing. If I write this novel, will I become more interesting? If I go to this party, will I become more interesting? If I sail across the world, will I be more interesting? The only way to find out? Do it. The more that you do, the more stories you’ll have to tell. Have a bias towards action.
- Get uncomfortable every day. Do something daily that makes you stretch as a person. It’s exactly these kind of moments that will help you grow as a person.
- Passionately study a subject for one day. It could be politics. It could be art. It could be a new language. It could be pop culture. This will give you more to talk about.
- Master a skill. Singing, writing, presentations, acting, karate. I don’t care what it is, but I do care about you developing a strong work ethic, persevering and mastering a skill. Everyone falls short in the beginning. What you do after that is what matters.
- Be your wacky, unique, authentic self. Stop trying to be somebody you’re not so that you can fit in. It’s exhausting to put up an act. Be the awesome person that you are. The people that belong in your life will love you for it.
- Welcome everything in your life with a smile. If you are stucked in a traffic, smile. if you are alone, smile, if you on your deathbed, smile. Go out there and sprinkle your shiny smile on everyone.
However, don’t solve life like it is a puzzle. Instead, live it the way you want to.
