Muhyiddin’s silence on urine issue under fire

Kula: Minister must state that non-Muslims pupils can eat in school canteens during Ramadan.
M Kula Segaran
IPOH: The DAP has taken Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to task for his “deafening silence” about a teacher who reportedly told pupils to drink tap water in the school toilets during fasting month.
DAP national vice-chairman M Kula Segaran said Muhyiddin ought to publicly let school authorities and Malaysians know where the Ministry stood on the issue, in which the teacher had been reported to have said in jest about mistakenly drinking their urine instead.
Kula insisted that the only stand that Muhyiddin could take must be to allow non-Muslim school children to eat and drink in canteens during the fasting month.
Muhyiddin should make it clear that misfit teachers who brought shame to the educational system would be disciplined. They should just leave the profession, Kula said in a statement today.
“Why has the Education Minister remained silent? Is it because keeping silence is politically correct for him?” said Kula, who is MP for Ipoh Barat.
A teacher at SK Ibrahim in Sungai Petani is reported to have told non-Muslim pupils to drink tap water or urine in the toilet during the fasting month.
However Kedah executive councillor for education, Tajul Urus Mat Zain, said the teacher‘s comments about drinking urine were made in jest.
Criticism, however, said such an unwarranted “joke” was no small matter, and demanded a full ministerial inquiry.
Kula said there had been no clear rebuttal to the contention that non Muslim children were told to drink tap water in school toilets during the fasting month.
“How could a teacher advise any student to drink tap water? And why couldn’t  the non-Muslim students be allowed to drink and eat in the canteen during the fasting month?
“Surely Muslim students will not go to the canteen during the fasting month, so why the unfair, unacceptable and ridiculous directive?,” the MP said.
