Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today officially welcomed his new deputy, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to office during a monthly gathering with civil servants in Putrajaya today.
He said that he has confidence in Zahid's spirit of "solidarity" when it comes to executing the joint responsibility with other Cabinet members.
"I am confident and believe in his integrity, to help me and other Cabinet members form a strong bond, with the spirit of camaraderie, to take on this heavy responsibility and to fulfill the wishes and aspiration of the people," he said, in his speech this morning.
His statement comes a week after he sacked Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as his deputy in a Cabinet reshuffle on July 28.
Najib had said he needed a strong and solid team to drive through his economic and political transformation agenda for Malaysia.
He said the new Cabinet would ensure the government has the strength and unity to focus on his development plans and the challenges.
He also said that members of the Cabinet should not air their differences openly as it could affect public opinion against the government.
Muhyiddin's sacking was said to be related to his criticism of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), the state-owned investment vehicle which has accumulated RM42 billion in debts in just six years of operation.
