"There are people who say that I want yes men. No, I don't want yes men. But I don't want 'no' men outside there. You want to say 'no' to me, do it behind closed doors," Najib said at the Hulu Selangor Umno AGM today.
The Umno president said that the opposition supporters do not give up on their leaders and back their leaders at all cost, in an obvious reference to PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"There are so many allegations about the person, but the supporters still defend him no matter what. Why? Because they know that you need to back your leader so that the party can win in the elections," he said.
Najib recently axed his party deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and vice president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal from the Cabinet following their criticism of his handling of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue.
1MDB sits on a RM42 billion debt and Najib is the chairman of its advisory board.
A special special task force has been formed to investigate claims that state funds from 1MDB were transferred into his personal accounts.
