The Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4) today labelled Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak a "hypocrite" for daring the opposition to reveal its political funders.
Najib yesterday said that he was willing to disclose Umno's political funders if the opposition did the same, but C4 today urged Najib to spearhead such disclosures instead playing "charade" with opposition parties.
"This remark rings of hypocrisy – more so after dropping the attorney-general and former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin after the latter criticised him over allegations surrounding media reports of the massive monies said to have gone into his personal account," C4 executive director Cynthia Gabriel said in a statement today.
She also urged Najib to disclose whether RM2.6 billion was deposited in his personal accounts to be used for the general election campaign in 2013, saying that "integrity and responsibility" compels him to explain about the alleged money in his accounts.
"Chasing ghosts among whistleblowers who have courageously spoken out against the scandal, will also not help him come out smelling like roses," she added.
