His remark today appeared to be an apparent response to the claim made by his party deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin that BN will lose the elections if it were to be held now.
"There are people who said we will lose if the elections are held today. Who said the elections are today? It's not today, not tomorrow," Najib told the Hulu Selangor Umno annual general meeting in Kuala Kubu Bharu.
"We have ample time for that, to gain the public's confidence," he added.
Muhyiddin had last week warned about BN's standing in public perception right now due to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) controversy.
He, however, warned that Umno must change its methods if it were to succeed in the forthcoming elections, saying that it often lacks focus on the people "outside halls."
"We often think that we bring people to a hall, and they all support us. We forget about the people outside the halls," he said.
"We need to look at our programmes to approach those outside the halls as well," he added.
He said that it would be pointless for the party to pour plenty of resources for such programmes if they do not yield results.
"I always say, the outcome is important, not just the output," he said.
Najib said that even he felt "deceived" when 30,000 people turned up for one of his programmes in Selangor during the general elections.
"I thought oh, look at the turnout, these people will vote for us. But they didn't vote for us." he said.
