myPPP president M Kayveas should step down as party chief and hand over its reins to former MIC president G Palanivel if Kayveas really thinks Palanivel is a great leader, MIC central working committee member S Vell Paari said.
Kayveas, leaders from BN-friendly Indian-based parties and the Malaysian Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI) yesterday threw their support behind Palanivel, whom they said is the rightful president of MIC.
Palanivel was sacked from the MIC when he breached the party's constitution by seeking judicial review on the Registrar of Societies' instruction to MIC to hold fresh leadership elections.
"Since you feel that Palanivel is an exceptional leader, why don't all of you merge under the myPPP banner together with Palanivel supporters? Elect Palanivel, as the new president of myPPP.
"Not only will the members of Makkal Sakthi and IPF be now part of BN but Kayveas can also prove that he puts his money where his mouth is by handing over the myPPP presidency to Palanivel," Vell Paari said in a statement.
MIC held fresh elections after Palanivel was sacked and Dr S Subramaniam was elected president and endorsed by the RoS.
But going by Kayveas' statement yesterday, Vell Paari said, the RoS endorsement might not be enough for any registered society.
"Looks like Kayveas' approval is a must.
"Even though the prime minister and the BN recognise Dr Subramaniam as president, but until Kayveas gives his seal of myPPP's approval, the PM's or the RoS' seal of approval will not be recognised.
"I am eager to know when the cabinet passed this," Vell Paari said, snidely.
He also lambasted MAICCI chairperson Kenneth Eswaran for alleging that MIC is now dominated by a "single caste".
"What you said is seditious in nature," he said, addressing Kenneth.
Vell Paari also urged BN and BN-friendly parties to stop "doing opposition's work" and to work towards BN's victory in the next general election. -Mkini
