Mahfuz wants RM2.6b, SRC probe papers tabled in Parliament

Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar today proposed that the investigation papers into the RM2.6 billion and SRC International cases be tabled in Parliament.
This is after a stalemate as attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali refused the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to prosecute on the case.
"If the attorney-general's claim that both of the investigation papers have no case and they should be closed, I challenge the prime minister and attorney-general to table both investigation papers in the Parliament sitting that will begin on March 7," he said.
Mahfuz said such a move would effectively make the investigation papers public documents.
"There are no laws that prevent the prime minister and attorney-general from doing so," said the PAS lawmaker.
The MACC was investigating the deposits of RM42 million from state-owned SRC International and US$681 million (RM2.6 billion) into the personal bank accounts of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Najib had denied wrongdoing and the attorney-general also cleared him but the MACC is appealing the decision not to prosecute.
The MACC, in a statement on Wednesday, said it was advised by its Operations Review Panel to resubmit the SRC International investigation papers to the attorney-general.
The commission said it was also advised to ask the attorney-general to invoke the Mutual Legal Assistance to obtain overseas banking information on the RM2.6 billion. -Mkini
