Umno's constitution book is burned after a press conference by Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz Mahathir, announcing that a new political platform may be formed.
KUALA LUMPUR: Dissatisfied with the recent sackings from Umno of its former deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former Menteri Besar of Kedah Mukhriz Mahathir, the Coalition of Branch Chiefs Malaysia (GKCM) protested by setting the party’s constitution book on fire.
“This book (constitution) is useless, it’s not being referred to (by the Supreme Council) anymore.
“So today, GKCM will burn Umno’s constitution book,” the group’s Vice-President Rushdan Mohamed said.
He was speaking to reporters after a press conference held by Muhyiddin and Mukhriz at the Universiti Malaya Alumni clubhouse today.
Last Friday, Umno’s supreme council unanimously decided to expel Muhyiddin and Mukhriz on disciplinary grounds after both decided to share the stage with Opposition leaders apart from their constant attacks on Umno.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin announced at the press conference that there was a likelihood a new political platform would be formed by himself and Mukhriz soon.
Saying that both would discuss the matter over with leaders and friends, Muhyiddin added, “Many have extended informal offers to us but we need to thoroughly analyse if there is a real need to form a new political platform or to join existing ones.
“It’s not just about forming a platform, as its aims and policies matter too.”
