Former second finance minister Husni Hanadzlah has been invited to join Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Save Malaysia movement by the former prime minister’s stalwart, Zaid Ibrahim.
"Husni is a good man and good people can't stay in the cesspool for long.
"I urge Husni to come join Save Malaysia Movement. He knows enough to want to do something for the country," Zaid tweeted today.
Husni has resigned from the cabinet and it was later revealed yesterday that he has given up all his positions in Umno and BN, including as Umno treasurer.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who announced Husni's intention to retire as second finance minister, said this was due to personal reasons.
Speculation is rife that the Tambun MP's exit from Putrajaya was actually due to the 1MDB scandal.
Zaid, a former minister in the Prime Minister’s Deparment in charge of law, believes Husni now understands the difficulties he had faced back in 2008, when Zaid quit the government.
"When I resigned, Husni said I should have patience and work from within. Now he probably understand things better."
Zaid resigned from then prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's cabinet in September 2008, in protest against use of arbitrary detention under the Internal Security Act.
The Save Malaysia movement, spearheaded by Mahathir, aims to topple Najib and implement institutional reforms.
Najib has consistently denied any wrong doing in the 1MDB scandal, while attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has cleared Najib of criminal misconduct in cases linked to the state investment firm. - Mkini
