BN's Sulabayan assemblyperson Jaujan Sambakong today announced that he has quit Umno.
"I have lost confidence in the Umno leadership," the Semporna Umno vice-chief told Malaysiakini when contacted.
He said Semporna Umno permanent chairperson Datu Eranza Datu Saribu also quit the party, along with 19 committee members and various Semporna Umno grassroots leaders.
Jaujan said he will remain as an assemblyperson and leave it to Sabah legislative assembly speaker Syed Abas Syed Ali to decide on his status.
This comes after the Umno supreme council suspended Semporna chief and party vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal from the party last Friday.
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had said that Shafie’s suspension was pending a report from the party’s disciplinary committee.
The Umno supreme council last Friday also sacked Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir from the party. - Mkini
