YOURSAY | ‘Minister, how is the Orlando shooting related to Rafizi's joke?’
Kim Quek: It is really amazing that Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli’s ingenious ‘atomic bomb’ humour on the scandal-ridden PM has drawn incredibly stupid response from not only a chief police officer of a state (who has instantly started criminal investigation against Rafizi) but also now from someone as important as the defence minister.
What has this country been reduced to – a country run by incompetent dimwits who have lost all sense of humour?
Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s allusion of Rafizi’s boisterous joke to the killing of more than 50 people by an Islamic fanatic in Orlando is not only perplexing but extremely worrying – that the all-important task of defending the nation from foreign enemies should be entrusted to someone of such questionable intelligence and common sense.
Any fool can see that there is not the slightest similarity that can link Rafizi’s joke to the fanatical killings in Orlando.
We can see that Najib’s global corruption scandals have taken their toll on his lieutenants, who have become over-edgy against Najib’s critics.
However, they must not let their over-zealousness to defend their boss to cloud their senses to the point of seeing a deadly enemy behind every shadow and start shooting unnecessarily, lest this BN government would make Malaysia into an even bigger laughing stock than what Najib’s scandals have precipitated.
Tan Kim Keong: Hishammuddin has the intelligence to know that the 'liberals' and civil rights activists will indeed face the same threat of violence and harm to them when Najib, PAS, religious agencies and NGOs continue to demonise them by categorising them as deviants.
Are not Najib and those perpetrators of 'hate' not inciting?
Swipenter: What about your infamous keris antics? How and what do you want us to equate it with? What about the cow’s head incident in Shah Alam?
Or Umno Youth threatening to burn down KL Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall and years later, the DAP headquarters.
What about church fire-bombings? PAS recent keris antics and not forgetting the Red Shirt's threats against the Petaling Street traders and the veiled threats of violence against the Chinese in general.
Don’t forget Ali Tinju’s butt-dancing army and his inflammatory speech in front of Low Yat Plaza. And these were no jokes!
Negarawan: “If this is the kind of politics that is practised, the country will be destroyed. You want to talk about mature democracy – this is not the way," said Hishammuddin.
Well, to begin with, it is your cousin who has destroyed the country through corrupt politics and turned it into a kleptocracy, not democracy. Of course, we can jokingly say that Najib has "nuclear bombed" or "nuked" the whole country.
Hishammuddin is apparently not intelligent enough to see the difference between the Orlando tragedy and the "bomb" joke. The former is a terrible act of Islamic terrorism. The latter, to those educated in English, is a sarcastic joke.
Only a charlatan tries to draw a parallel between the two.
RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Hishammuddin, how is the Orlando shooting related to Rafizi's joke?
Did Rafizi's joke inspire the cruel shooting? My poor mind is trying to figure out how the two can be related.
Rick Teo: It’s a reflection of our poor educational standard when we cannot differentiate between reality and humour.
If anyone interprets it as a threat, then blame it on the poor grasp of the language. I cannot see it as a threat and to investigate as a threat is really a big joke.
One Malaysia: Indeed, what an idiotic comparison. Certainly appealing to your sense of humour would be a total waste of time. Holding forth a keris is more your style.
CQ Muar: The comment made by Hishammuddin, comparing the "atom bomb" humour by Rafizi to the Orlando mass shooting certainly tickled my funny bone.
It's understandable Hishammuddin is trying to defend his cousin, but there's a limit to stupidity.
Kawak: Hishammuddin, you are comparing an apple with an orange. The person who was responsible for killing in Orlando is motivated by religious extremism, which Umno and PAS is promoting.Vijay47: Firstly, our IGP will certainly not appreciate the humour of Rafizi's "atom bomb" joke, not since Khalid Abu Bakar was unable to understand "Royal, my foot" and took it to mean an insult to the rulers.
Secondly, since Hishammuddin is associating a joke directed towards Najib to an incident in Orlando, is Hishammuddin suggesting that Najib is of the same persuasion as those who attended that nightclub?
Falcon: Seriously? -Mkini
