While Barisan Nasional celebrates its victory, the Opposition however offers reason on why they lost.
PETALING JAYA: Politicians from both sides of the political divide have taken to Twitter to state their opinions about the just-concluded Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections.
Amanah’s Parit Buntar MP Mujahid Yusof Rawa said Barisan Nasional won because they used money, election machinery and the media and that Amanah was still a force to be reckoned with.
“All is not lost for Amanah, BN used the 3M… money, machinery and media. Amanah a force to reckon with. Substantive issues lost in midst of 3M,” he tweeted.
On the other hand, PKR national deputy youth chief Afif Bahardin blamed the Opposition’s loss on the three-cornered fights in the by-elections.
“Tahniah BN, mereka menang bukan kerana kuat – tetapi kerana kita gagal untuk fikirkan strategi terbaik. Wajib kembali ke meja rundingan. (Congratulations BN, they won not because they were strong – but because we failed to adopt the best strategy. It is imperative we go back to the negotiating table.)”
Former Law Minister Zaid Ibrahim also shared his sentiments on the by-elections and said: “Kan saya dah beritahu awal awal lagi, politik Melayu mudah. PAS dapat Hudud, Umno dapat undi, Cina dapat bisnes (I’ve already said from the start that Malay politics is easy. PAS gets Hudud, Umno gets votes, and Chinese get business.)”
Umno Youth Chief and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin attributed the wins to voters and the BN machinery.
“Syukur Alhamdulillah Barisan Nasional menang di Sungai Besar dan Kuala Kangsar. Terima kasih kepada pengundi dan jentera” (Praise be to God for the Barisan Nasional wins in Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar. Thanks to the voters and machinery), said Khairy.
Meanwhile, MCA President Liow Tiong Lai congratulated BN candidates Mastura Yazid and Budiman Zohdi on their wins.
“Tahniah YBs Mastura Yazid dan Budiman Zohdi atas kemenangan beliau di kawasan yg ditandingi! (Congratulations to YBs Mastura Yazid and Budiman Zohdi on their wins in the areas they contested).”
