An Umno Youth exco leader will file a police report against two individuals who are purportedly funding a campaign to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
In a media brief, Armand Azha Abu Hanifah said he was informed of the pair’s link to the alleged campaign this morning, and would file a report with the Dang Wangi district police headquarters tomorrow.
“I have documents, but I will not provide the details.
“I will pass it to the police, and I hope they will launch a thorough investigation on the matter,” he told Malaysiakini.
Armand named the two corporate figures, but Malaysiakini is withholding their identities.
One of them is the son of a business tycoon while the other is described as the proxy of another corporate behemoth, both of whom are known to be close associates of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The tycoons have diversified business interests in the country, ranging from development projects, malls to hotels.
Najib and his supporters have repeatedly accused Mahathir and those linked to him of conspiring to topple the prime minister.
He has also denied the accusations by the former premier of having siphoned 1MDB funds.
In July, Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun filed a police report against former Bank Negara governor Zeti Aktar Aziz, ex-attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and former Malaysian Anti-Corruption (MACC) commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed.
He accused the trio of furnishing classified information to foreign agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, without authorisation.
Khairul also alleged that the three could have falsified the information to achieve their agenda.
However, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar later said no action would be taken because the Umno Youth leader’s report was based on assumptions.
Despite this, Khairul considered his move to be successful, and claimed that it had thwarted a plot against the prime minister.
