Why fear facing me in party polls, Syed Saddiq asks contenders

Malaysiakini

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman hit back at his former aide who criticised him for holding on to the Bersatu Youth chief post despite losing his party membership.
"Why are you afraid to face me in the party elections?" he asked in reference to Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
"Let the grassroots decide...,” he tweeted today.
Wan Fayhsal had served as Saddiq's special officer during the latter's term as youth and sports minister under the previous Pakatan Harapan administration.
He is also running for the Bersatu Youth chief post at the party's upcoming inaugural polls.
Earlier today, Wan Fayhsal (abovetook a swipe at Syed Saddiq over the latter's insistence to hold on to his party position.
Another Bersatu Youth exco member, Muzzammil Ismail, had also hit out at Syed Saddiq and threatened to lodge a police report against him for allegedly abusing the party's name.
Contacted later, Syed Saddiq directed the same question to Muzzammil.
"Both of them are my competitors in the party election," he told Malaysiakini.
"On the police report, that is his right and I respect that. I will not bow to the threat. I hold on to my stand and I will not waver. Remain with principle and dignity," he told Malaysiakini.
Syed Saddiq is among five Bersatu leaders, including former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and son, Mukhriz, who have rejected the party's stand that their membership was automatically nullified after they had sat on the opposition bench during the May 18 Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Last week, Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainuddin maintained that no move was taken by the party to sack the leaders but they had lost their membership status due to their own action.
He also said with the nullification of their membership, all five were no longer eligible to contest in the party polls. - Mkini
