Act against minister’s supporters under MCO, urges Sabah PPBM

Sabah PPBM Youth chief Isquzawan Israq (left) says police should not compromise with supporters of a state minister who ignored social distancing rules.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PPBM Youth wants police to take action against supporters of Warisan vice-president Peter Anthony for breaching social distancing rules while gathering to support him yesterday.
Its chief, Isquzawan Israq, said Anthony’s supporters from Warisan and the KDM Malaysia organisation had clearly ignored the rules when they gathered in droves to offer moral support to the infrastructure development minister at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission office.
“In the photos and videos widely shared on social media, Anthony was greeted with cheers by more than 100 supporters. He also shook hands and embraced several MPs and assemblymen as well as other leaders.
“It was also clear all of them did not practise social distancing and this is in direct violation of the movement control order imposed by the government to curtail Covid-19,” he said in a statement.
He was speaking after lodging a police report at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here today.
As such, Isquzawan urged police to trace these offenders and take appropriate action against them.
“The law is the law. We are all aware this shouldn’t happen during the MCO period — even the deputy health minister and a Perak exco were penalised for the offence in the peninsula.
“If no action is taken, we are worried the public may think the security authorities are biased and it might encourage others to do the same thing,” he said.
Anthony spent seven hours at the MACC being questioned over allegations of road concession contracts, worth RM1.5 billion, being awarded directly to contractors. - FMT
