Ali Rustam to be named the new Malacca governor

Malaysiakini

Former Malacca chief minister Mohd Ali Rustam will soon take over as the state’s seventh governor, succeeding Mohd Khalil Yaakob.
This was confirmed by Malacca state exco member Idris Haron, who sent a congratulatory message to Mohd Ali (above).
“I wish to take this opportunity, as chairperson of the Malay and Islamic World Youth Bureau, to congratulate our president, who has been posted to Malacca as the Malacca governor.
“Alhamdulillah, with Ali’s abilities and his many contributions to national politics, including in youth development as Malay and Islamic World president, I think this is the best decision by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for all Malaccans,” he said.
Idris, who is also former chief minister, also thanked the king for appointing a Malacca native as governor.
“For the first time, we will have a local as Malacca governor,” he said.
The governor’s swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at Balai Istiadat, Kompleks Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh, Malacca, on Friday.
The event would be followed by a handover ceremony by the incumbent governor Mohd Khalil to his successor at 11am.
Ali was Malacca chief minister from 1999 until 2013, before being replaced by Idris Haron, who is the Sungai Udang assemblyperson.
Meanwhile, Idris also expressed his appreciation and thanks for Khalil and his spouse Zarina Kassim for their contributions to the state over the past 16 years.
“It can’t be denied that Khalil has raised Malacca to the next level. The people of Malacca will miss (Khalil and Zarina) forever,” he said. - Mkini
