All Kg Baru planning, municipal requirements must get mayor's nod - DBKL

Malaysiakini

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has asserted that all planning and municipal management requirements concerning Kampung Baru development must obtain the mayor’s approval.
It said Mayor Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan has been accorded the authority and responsibility to manage Kuala Lumpur, where Kampung Baru is situated.
As such, Kampung Baru would also be subjected to all related laws such as the Federal Capital Act 1960, Federal Territory (Planning) Act 1982; Local Government Act 1976; Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, Entertainment (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) Act 1992, Hotels (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur) Act 2003, and Road Transport Act 1987.
“For that purpose, all business concerning development management, including approvals for a development order, development plan, engineering plan, building, and land works permits as well as permission to occupy a building must obtain Nor Hisham’s approval as the mayor.
“This includes all matters relating to business and hawker licensing, traffic, car parks, advertisement, road closures, and enforcement,” DBKL said in a statement today.
This came in the wake of a statement by Kampung Baru Development Corporation (PKB) last Saturday on the status of the Malay Agricultural Settlement (MAS) Board.
PKB had stated that according to the Federal Territories Ministry, the MAS Board was “no longer relevant” in the administration of the Malay settlement.
It said this was according to the Attorney-General’s legal viewpoint and a letter sent to the board by the Ministry last February.
This decision was, in turn, based on an agreement by Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to hand over all matters pertaining to the status of MAS to the ministry on Dec 2, last year, in accordance with the law.
The PKB added that MAS as no function as most ownership of the settlement land had been transferred, or awaiting transfer.
Even so, it said the ministry welcomes the MAS board to serve as an NGO or consulting party in matters related to residents’ land or inheritance.
MAS Board was formed by the Selangor government back in 1900 under the Land Enactment 1897. - Mkini
