Almost 360k people with disabilities will miss out on cash aid

Malaysiakini

Not every person with disabilities registered with the Welfare Department (JKM) would receive the RM300 one-off cash aid announced by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, claimed Nor Miswary Ramli, who is the political secretary to Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh.
“According to the prime minister, more than 300,000 people with disabilities and single mothers listed under the JKM qualify to receive a one-off cash aid which will be channelled to them before Hari Raya Aidiladha.
“That amount is split to 190,000 people with disability and 150,000 single mothers.
“However, I have been informed that the number of people with disabilities registered with JKM countrywide up to June 30, 2019, was 549,554,” Nor Miswary said in a statement today.
Checks with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry website portal MaNIS found that the number of people with disabilities registered with the JKM up to April 20, 2019, was 542,918, he said.
As such, he questioned why the RM300 one-off cash aid would only be given to 190,000 people with disabilities.
“What about the fate of almost 360,000 other people with disabilities? Are there certain conditions that qualify them to receive this one-off cash aid?
“The Perikatan Nasional (PN) government through the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry needs to explain why only 190,000 people with disabilities will receive the one-off cash aid when the number of people with disabilities registered with the JKM is nearly 550,000 people based on statistics up to June 30, 2019,” Nor Miswary said.
He also urged the government to ensure that none of the people with disabilities registered with the JKM will be excluded from receiving the RM300.
Yesterday, Muhyiddin had announced the National Economic Recovery Plan (Penjana) with a RM10 billion direct fiscal injection.
Among the many initiatives he announced was a RM300 one-off cash aid for people with disabilities and single mothers registered with the JKM.
He had assured that this aid would be channelled to them before the Hari Raya Aidiladha. - Mkini
