The people are satisfied with the new government and this would translate into a major victory if the general election is held soon, predicted Umno supreme council member Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
"Currently, the rakyat are feeling 'suka hati' (delighted)... The government is helping them in numerous ways despite the Covid-19 outbreak.
"The government has shown it cares for the people and it is helping to restore the economy and providing Prihatin cash handouts, which shows the government has money," he added.
On the contrary, the Pasir Salak MP accused Pakatan Harapan of peddling falsehoods, which have eroded people's confidence in the coalition.
For instance, he said Perikatan Nasional has proved that the nation would not go bankrupt as alleged by Harapan prior to the 2018 general election.
"If we are bankrupt or do not have money, then how did the prime minister manage to give so much aid to the people?
"This shows that (DAP secretary-general and former finance minister) Lim Guan Eng and (former prime minister) Dr Mahathir Mohamad lied to us.
"Mahathir went to Japan to borrow money because he claimed that BN robbed the people.
"It was not true and people now know. God willing, people will support us - Umno, Bersatu and PAS - again," he told reporters in Balakong, Selangor, today.
On June 16, Umno's supreme council passed a resolution urging the government to hold a fresh election.
However, Harapan and its allies are seeking to recapture Putrajaya, which slipped from its grasp in February due to a political coup.
Harapan claims it has sufficient numbers in the Dewan Rakyat to do so but is facing an internal dispute over the choice of its prime minister candidate. - Mkini
