Bersatu vice-president Abdul Rashid Asari has been appointed as chairperson of the Malaysian Highway Authority, according to a congratulatory message posted on the regulator’s Facebook page today.
The appointment takes effect beginning June 1.
Abdul Rashid is also the Selangor Bersatu chief and Selat Klang assemblyperson.
He was the state exco member for culture and tourism, Malay customs and heritage until he was removed from office after Bersatu left the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
Last Friday, he was slapped with a RM1,000 compound for violating the movement control order by organising a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering with more than 20 people.
Abdul Rashid is a lawyer by training, as is vice-president of the Malaysian Ex-Police Association.
On May 19, he claimed that Selangor Bersatu endorsed Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin as the party’s acting chairperson, but several division chiefs in the state claimed Abdul Rashid’s statement was on in line with what was agreed beforehand. - Mkini
