Chin Tong's 'PAS on mislaid path' remark unsurprising: PAS Youth chief

Malaysiakini

It is not surprising that Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong has slammed PAS for its “mislaid path”, said PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin.
“Of course the DAP strategist has criticised PAS for not choosing the same path as Amanah, its close ally.
“If Liew were to praise PAS’ new direction, of course we would have sent him a form for the PAS non-Muslim Supporters Club (DPP) with a lifetime exception on membership fees. However, it is not like that,” Khairil (above) said in a statement today.
Liew’s political thinking is molded very differently from the PAS leadership, he said, adding that DAP has always liked to break up the Malay-Muslim’s rule on power.
He said PAS has worked with DAP before, with the cooperation being based on a shared vision and bound by certain terms.
DAP was the one who violated the terms, he said, and PAS did not hesitate to break away from the cooperation.
“PAS, which was established before merdeka (independence), has its own aspirations and demands. How is it possible that PAS is asked to set aside its principles merely due to this shared vision?
“Malaysia, which has a Malay majority, should be captained by a solid Malay-Muslim political power,” Khairil said.
He said the mistakes of the past 22 months under the Pakatan Harapan government must be resolved, and be better planned, with a pillar of political stability which does not oppress other races.
“That is what ties the new Muafakat Nasional cooperation between PAS and Umno and other parties,” he said.
He stressed that the Umno-PAS cooperation is to strengthen the power of Malay-Muslims in politics which he claimed has been fragile all this while.
Muafakat Nasional, he said, is not about inciting racial sentiment but about building up the strength of the Muslim community’s solidarity.
“Who else should we place our hopes in for the political strength of the Malay-Muslims? DAP?”
Khairil said that Liew’s criticism of PAS is merely to cover up the weakness of DAP as he said DAP is the biggest liability which caused the fall of Harapan.
“Harapan is again seeking to recapture the government but the people are more comfortable being governed by a more caring and peaceful government,” he said.
Previously, Liew (above) had said that PAS had gone down a mislaid path after cooperating with Umno.
“After discarding the spirit of 1982, the party is now under the spell of (Umno leaders) Zahid Hamidi and Najib Abdul Razak, embracing the very thing they hate for almost 40 years.
“It is indeed a mislaid path for PAS,” he had said. - Mkini
