Cops classify Batu MP's case as no further action

Malaysiakini

Batu MP P Prabakaran heaved a sigh of relief after the police classified his case as "no further action."
The PKR representative was probed in April over the alleged violation of the movement control order (MCO) and obstructing a civil servant in the course of conducting their duty.
In a statement, Prabakaran (above) thanked the police for conducting a fair investigation as well as his constituency team for the support.
"A lot of accusations and fake news have spread over my detention. Many people questioned my intention for going out during the MCO.
"Now it's proven. I was outside to help the folks in the area under the enhanced MCO," he said.
Prabakaran said the challenges that he faced had given him the strength to work harder and stand strong with Batu folks.
In April, Prabakaran was detained after reportedly being involved in a heated exchange with Federal Territories Deputy Minister Edmund Santhara (below).
Prabakaran stressed that he had followed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lawmakers carrying out their duties during the MCO period, and that he had kept police informed of his movements.
He said during his visit, he learned that Santhara was having a meeting at a command centre next to the Selayang wholesale market and decided to pop by to have a discussion with the deputy minister.
According to Santhara and his aide, this was when the heated exchange took place after Prabakaran entered the meeting uninvited and was told to wait until after the meeting.
Prabakaran said he wanted to do a Facebook live video outside the command centre but was told he could not record there, and left to do it somewhere else.
Later, as he was doing his live video elsewhere, police approached him saying Santhara wanted to meet.
He complied and drove back to the command centre, only to be told by police that they had received instructions to take him to the Sentul police district headquarters.
He was released on police bail on the same day after they recorded his statement. - Mkini
