Cops probe Siti Kasim over Facebook post on 'banning tahfiz schools'

Malaysiakini

The police are probing activist Siti Kasim over allegations that she has called for tahfiz schools to be banned.
This came after Siti (above) criticised PAS for calling the production and sale of alcoholic beverages to be suspended until the issue of drink-driving is resolved.
On May 26, Siti wrote in her Facebook post: "Alcohol is not the problem. The irresponsible drinkers are the problem. Just like the tahfiz schools are not the problem. It is the management that manages the schools that are the problem.
"You want to ban alcohol just because it suits you? Then ban tahfiz schools, too, for causing much damage to our innocent children."
When contacted, Siti said that the probe followed multiple police reports lodged against her by NGO Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida).
"The probe is in relation to my posting about PAS making so much noise about banning alcohol.
"Certain quarters had twisted my statement and it went viral. Pekida had lodged multiple reports against me," she said.
Siti is also planning to sue Pekida, saying that the NGO had filed false reports against her.
"I want to sue them for lodging false police reports based on an article from a third party website," she said.
Siti added that the police will record her statement on Thursday.
She also raised a question of whether those questioning PAS will be called by the police.
In her Facebook post today, she wrote: "It seems like anyone who questions PIS (PAS) will be called by Bukit Aman. I am one of them. Hannah Yeoh is another."
Yeoh, who is the Segambut MP, had said that the cops will record her statement over a tweet on child marriage she made back in March.
Bukit Aman CID deputy director (investigations/legal) Mior Faridalathrash Wahid confirmed the probe, saying that Siti is being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. - Mkini
