The following is an update from the Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s Quick Response Team on countering fake news on social media.
1. Bank Negara Malaysia has denied that the governor of Bank Negara had made an announcement about high investment opportunities via a bitcoin trade platform known as Bitcoin Pro, saying any news about this is fake.
Bank Negara advises the public to be wary about fake news involving bitcoin investments.
2. Penang Fisheries director denies claims that all fish sold in the state contain poison.
He explained that the presence of floating dead fish is of fish that became smelly in cages because of an explosion of 'Algae Bloom' which causes fish to be short of oxygen and die.
He stressed that there was no issue of marine fish being contaminated by poison.
