First Covid-19 photo exhibition unveiled at Publika

Malaysiakini

The country's first Covid-19 photography exhibition was launched today as part of a cooperation between Fergana Art and Publika Shopping Gallery.
Hosted at Publika Shopping Centre, the photography exhibition featured 110 images by 60 photographers, including Malaysiakini's Azneal Ishak and Mukhriz Hazim.
"The exhibits are a result of an exhaustive selection process from more than 1,000 images from 75 photographers.
"This is the first exhibition in the country to involve the new norm of conducting a presentation of works of art with social distancing measures put in place around the exhibits," the shopping centre said in a statement.
Fergana Art founder Jaafar Ismail said the exhibit helps document the Covid-19 pandemic which is now part of the country's history.
"Covid-19 is a global viral pandemic in the same class as the Spanish Flu in 1918; hence it is an occurrence that calls for documentation.
"We choose photojournalism - visual and textual - as the window to chronicle the phenomena since it is widely regarded as the first draft of history," he said.
The exhibition was officiated by Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.
"Not only is this a documentation which will be preserved for generations to come, but a poignant tribute to those who made sacrifices for the health and safety of all Malaysians," he said.
The exhibition runs from June 13 to June 30 from 10am to 10pm. - Mkini
