The Pakatan Harapan secretariat council lambasted the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government over a slew of investigations against opposition lawmakers.
Condemning the action, the secretariat said this is a form of intimidation against PN's political enemies.
"The secretariat is of the view that these actions are a form of intimidation against political foes. We strongly condemn the intimidation," it added in a statement today.
The statement was signed by Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke and Amanah communications director Khalid Samad.
The secretariat said the investigations, followed by media reports on the cases, had created a bad perception towards certain individuals.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's government was advised to be "more matured and open" when dealing with differences in political views.
"The intimidations would only create a bad perception towards politics and the Malaysian democracy in the eyes of the world," read the statement.
The secretariat urged for the intimidation to be halted immediately.
Harapan spoke out just a day before Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh was called by the police to be present at Bukit Aman tomorrow (June 23). She was to be quizzed over a fake statement relating to child marriage.
Last month, the police had also probed Kuala Langat MP Xavier Jayakumar over his statement on the one-day Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Earlier this month, Bersatu Youth information chief Ulya Husamuddi, who was aligned to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, criticised an MACC probe against him.
Ulya claimed that his arrest was meant to “silence” members who previously questioned the party’s top leadership.
MACC had denied his claim. - Mkini
