I'm not resigning, declares Redzuan... again

Malaysiakini

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Redzuan Md Yusof has again denied speculation that he is resigning.
"I am not resigning and I will not resign. I will continue working with the cabinet led by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
"I believe there are certain groups with political interests who want to threaten the nation's stability," he added during a press conference at his residence in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
Speculation about Redzuan resigning first began last Friday after he had a meeting with disputed Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Redzuan later clarified that he had no intention of quitting PN and had tried to coax Mahathir to work with Muhyiddin during the meeting with the former premier.
Queried further today about the meeting, Redzuan brushed aside speculation that the former prime minister had tried to get him to join in toppling Muhyiddin.
"The purpose was to see from Mahathir's lens what Bersatu's future was, our opinions may differ," he said.
He added that Bersatu's direction as decided at last night's supreme council meeting was clear and there was no need to further speculate on the matter.
The Bersatu supreme council, who are mostly aligned with Muhyiddin, last night agreed to formally establish Perikatan Nasional as a coalition.
However, Mahathir - whose Bersatu membership has been terminated by the PN faction - wants the party to work with Pakatan Harapan.
Asked why he was targeted for defection rumours, Redzuan said it could be because he was not formerly a member of any political party.
However, he hoped that such speculation would be put to rest once and for all.
"I just want to continue with work, so why should I resign? I know what we are doing and I think we can get out of this situation (Covid-19 crisis) that we are facing now," he said.
He added that he was confident PN could remain in power, and there was no need to politicise the matter further.
He urged all quarters to abide by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree that the nation not be dragged into another political crisis and to come together to help rebuild the country.
If Redzuan had withdrawn his support for Muhyiddin and PN, it could result in a hung Parliament.
Yesterday, Bersatu's Sri Gading MP Shahruddin Salleh resigned as deputy works minister but it remains unclear if he still supported the ruling coalition.
Following the Parliament sitting on May 18, it was revealed that Muhyiddin's government possessed a razor-thin majority of two seats while Harapan claims it has sufficient numbers to recapture Putrajaya. - Mkini
