Minister: Insist on Covid-19 test result letter from foreign hairdressers

Malaysiakini
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob urged the public to insist their hairdressers produce a letter confirming they are negative for Covid-19 if the hairdresser is a foreigner.
"Those who are getting a haircut and find that their hairdresser is a foreigner, I ask that they insist on a letter of proof from the hairdresser," he said, adding that the letter should show the hairdresser has undergone a swab test and is confirmed to be negative for Covid-19.
“If you asked (for the letter) and the hairdresser fails to produce the letter, please report it immediately to the authorities so we can take action against those who break the standard operating procedure (SOP).
“This can help the government identify foreign workers who still have not undergone the swab test and do not have the letter. This goes against the order issued by the government,” Ismail Sabri said in his press conference today.
He said the government had previously announced that foreign workers must undergo the swab test and be confirmed negative for Covid-19 before being allowed to work.
This also applies for foreign workers in hair salons and barbershops, he said.
“If there are any hair salons or barbershops who allow their foreign workers to return to work without doing the swab test, we can take action to shut down the shop,” he said.
Earlier, he declined to confirm a viral post that a hairdresser in Setapak had been tested positive for Covid-19, saying he had not received any information about this from the Health Ministry.
However, if it is true, he said the business premise would be shut down.
“Anywhere, whether it is a hair salon, a factory or a construction site, if there is an employee who is positive (for Covid-19), the premises will be shut down and secondly, a screening will be done,” Ismail Sabri said.
Hairdressing services and beauty salon services were allowed to reopen on June 10, under strict SOP and guidelines, after almost three months of being shuttered.
