Muhyiddin vs Mahathir - Bersatu divisions continue to split

Malaysiakini

As the rivalry between disputed Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin drags on, more party leaders and divisions have come forward to announce which side they are on.
Today, division chiefs and women chiefs from all 24 Perak Bersatu divisions stated their “undivided support” for Muhyiddin as party president and prime minister.
However, only 21 Bersatu Youth chiefs were undersigned in the “special press statement”.
Those not included were Lumut Bersatu Youth chief Akmal Maradzi and Gerik Bersatu Youth chief Ahmad Safwan Mohamad. The Sungai Siput division, meanwhile, has no youth wing.
In the statement, the chiefs said they fully supported Bersatu’s move to quit Pakatan Harapan and form a new political pact.
“We fully support the party’s supreme council’s decision, and we state our support for the formation of a cabinet known as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, a new political pact for the wellbeing of the rakyat and political stability in the country, especially in Perak,” they added.
Shortly after the change of federal government in March, Perak’s Harapan state government also fell to PN following several defections.
Nevertheless, Chenderiang assemblyperson Ahmad Faisal Azumu - who is also the Perak Bersatu chief - was reappointed Menteri Besar.
Kuang rep backs action on Muhyiddin, ‘parasites’
In a separate statement, the party’s Kuang assemblyperson Sallehudin Amiruddin agreed that Muhyiddin and six other Bersatu MPs ought to be penalised for taking the party out of Harapan.
“I fully support that disciplinary action is taken against Muhyiddin Yassin and six Bersatu MPs who have violated party ethics,” he said.
Disputed party chairperson Mahathir and MPs aligned to him proposed the move yesterday.
The party previously ruled that memberships belonging to Mahathir and four MPs aligned to him were “nullified” following their move to sit on the Opposition bench during the May 18 Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Today, Sallehuddin further called those who backed Mahathir’s ouster from the party to face disciplinary action or be kicked out.
“They are the parasites that will destroy the party.
“After the parasites are removed, Bersatu ought to learn from its mistakes and not be so obsessed with bringing in ‘outsiders’ who have yet to prove their loyalty towards the real spirit and struggle of the party,” the Selangor lawmaker said.  - Mkini
