Former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan has been appointed as a director at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), a government-owned higher learning institute.
The appointment, which was announced yesterday, came two days after Musa tweeted that those who accept GLC positions must serve the rakyat, not personal gain.
According to a Facebook post by Usim, Musa's appointment is effective May 15 this year, until May 14, 2023.
Musa had made the tweet on Sunday in response to a query on whether accepting GLC posts was for the good of the people.
This after he said those who wish to stay in power should place the interest of the rakyat above personal interest.
In response to the GLC question, he said: "Who (sic) accept any position be it political, government-linked companies or public service, the main objective is to serve and ensure it is for the benefit and the interest of the rakyat and not for personal interest."
A day before the tweets, a leaked audio recording purportedly had a man whose voice resembled Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin laying out plans to lure Umno MPs to join Bersatu by offering ministerships or GLC posts.
"If they know a new government is being formed, with Umno in, 'Why don't you (Umno MPs) join in now’... Especially if there are positions. If not a minister, then chairperson of a GLC," the man said.
The recording is said to have been made during the Bersatu supreme council meeting on Feb 23, after which Muhyiddin took the party out of Pakatan Harapan to form the Perikatan Nasional government.
More than three dozen political appointments have since been made by the PN government. - Mkini
