Penang PKR Youth chief’s car vandalised, political motive suspected

Malaysiakini

Penang PKR Youth chief Fahmi Zainol has lodged a police report today after finding his car windscreen smashed this morning.
He expressed concern that the attack on his car, which was parked outside his home in Seberang Jaya, was politically motivated.
“I don’t know who did this but I’m convinced it is politically motivated. I condemn this action and would not condone it even if it happens to anyone else,” he told Malaysiakini.
He said the attack may have been linked to "harsh" statements published in several media outlets recently.
“But I don’t want to accuse any individual,” he said.
In a police report sighted by Malaysiakini, Fahmi said he discovered his car’s windscreen had been smashed as he was leaving his home at about 9am.
He found rocks near his car believed to have been used to damage the windscreen, he added.
Seberang Jaya Tengah OCPD Shafee Abd Samad confirmed receiving Fahmi's report, and said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
The provision deals with mischief causing damages above RM25, and is punishable with imprisonment between one and five years, a fine, or both.
“The case is being investigated to locate suspects,” Shafee told Malaysiakini.
In recent days, Fahmi had criticised Seberang Jaya assemblyperson Dr Afif Bahardin’s claim that the Penang government’s move to remove him from the government bloc is undemocratic.
He also urged Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to make good on his promise to enforce an anti-hopping law against two Bersatu assemblypersons by compelling them to vacate their seats in the state legislature.
It is unclear whether the statements are linked to the attack on Fahmi’s vehicle.
Meanwhile, Penang PKR acting chairperson Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik said that whatever the motive, the perpetrators of the attack must be brought to justice.
“Every Malaysian must uphold the law with a full sense of responsibility. Penang PKR strongly condemns this act and urges that such incidents are not repeated by any group or individual,” he said in a statement today. - Mkini
