Petronas CEO moved to MAS, PM says to ensure policy and objectives

Malaysiakini

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today announced that Petronas chief executive officer Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin will be moved to Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAS).
Muhyiddin, in a statement, said Zulkiflee (above) will become the new MAS chairperson.
Taking Zulkiflee's place at Petronas will be the national oil company's' chief financial officer Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz.
Apart from the role of Petronas group CEO, Tengku Muhammad Taufik will also serve as Petronas president.
Muhyiddin said the change was part of a leadership review of government-linked companies.
"In the current challenging economic climate, a number of government companies need to be strengthened to face the new normal.
"To this end, the government continues to review the leadership of all government-owned companies to ensure policy coordination and socio-economic objectives are achieved," he said.
Muhyiddin said the changes will be effective July 1.
He also thanked Wan Zilkiflee for his 37 years of service at Petronas.
"He succeeded in maintaining Petronas as a government company with strong financials and excellent management.
"Petronas is the only government-owned company with a good international credit rating and is still on the Fortune Global 500 list," he said.
Muhyiddin said he believed that Wan Zulkiflee could assist in restructuring MAS which has been in financial trouble.
"The oil industry is now facing monumental challenges, uncertain oil prices and an economic downturn.
"I believe with Tengku Muhammad Taufik's expertise and experience, together with the current chairperson Ahmad Nizam Salleh, they can lead Petronas to the peak of excellence," he said. - Mkini
