Question motive behind Gani Patail's affidavit - Anwar on Musa Aman acquittal

Malaysiakini

Opposition chief Anwar Ibrahim today questioned the decision by the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) to withdraw all corruption and money-laundering charges against former Sabah chief minister Musa Aman.
In a Facebook Live session this afternoon, Anwar pointed to a supporting document by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail which was used as a basis by the AGC in making its decision.
"Yes, I know that the excuse given was that the previous AG Abdul Gani Patail had supposedly given his undertaking, giving excuses why (Musa's cases) should be dismissed.
"But the current administration cannot question this? They could not question what are the interests that Gani had in Sabah?
"Is it land piece, personal interest, family interest or investment? Which had made it so easy (for Musa) to slip away? All these should have been looked into thoroughly," Anwar said.
Malaysiakini has reached out to Gani for his comments on Anwar's remarks.
Anwar, who is PKR president, was commenting on yesterday's acquittal of Musa (below) of 46 criminal charges that he was facing at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. This happened after the prosecution applied to withdraw all the charges.
In a statement several hours later,  Attorney-General Idrus Harun revealed several reasons behind the AGC's decision to withdraw the charges, including Gani's affidavit that supported Musa's application to strike out his charges.
Anwar said the incident showed that Malaysia had two sets of systems - one for the upper class and one for the working class.
"I believe we generally know that if this were to happen to a teacher or an ordinary working-class citizen or a factory worker or lower-grade civil servants, one would have been either fined or jailed if found to have committed an offence.
"But if you are an upper-class political figure, (implicated in cases involving) hundreds of millions or billions of ringgit, then you can get away.
"This has been proven in the 100 days Perikatan Nasional have been in power," he said. - Mkini
