Newly minted senator Rais Yatim is set to replace SA Vigneswaran as Dewan Negara president, says a BN source.
The latter’s term will expire next Monday on June 22.
“Yes, Tan Sri (Rais) will be replacing Vigneswaran.
“The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be held on June 22,” the source said on condition of anonymity.
Rais (above, left), who is Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chief, was made a senator on June 16.

The Umno veteran hails from Kuala Klawang, Negeri Sembilan and was its menteri besar from 1978 to 1982.
He has helmed several ministries in his long political career - among them the Information, Communication and Culture Ministry as well as the Foreign Ministry.
Rais famously quit Umno in the 1990s to join former finance minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah in breakaway party Semangat 46. He returned to Umno after the party dissolved.
Following BN’s defeat in GE14, he quit Umno a second time and joined Bersatu.
MIC President Vigneswaran has presided over the Dewan Negara since April 26, 2016.
The role is akin to that of the Dewan Rakyat speaker, carrying the tasks of keeping order in the upper house, ensuring debates run smoothly and debate points are relevant, as well as interpreting Standing Orders. - Mkini
