Saifuddin proposes Rukun Negara education

Malaysiakini

A proposal will be tabled at the cabinet for National Unity Minister Halimah Mohamed Sadique to head a task force to prepare content for the Rukun Negara Education long-term programme, said Saifuddin Abdullah.
The Communications and Multimedia Minister said this was decided between him and Halimah (photo) on June 4.
“We agreed to bring to the cabinet a proposal for her to head a task force to prepare the content for the ‘Pendidikan Rukun Negara’ long-term programme.
“The purpose is so that the Rukun Negara is absorbed formally and informally, and via utilisation of various approaches and medium so that it would be truly internalised in the heart lastingly and effectively.
“All of this is with the aim of renewing the commitment and increase the appreciation of Rukun Negara, including understanding on the importance and role of the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Saifuddin said.
He was speaking in a posting uploaded to his official Facebook account this morning.
Saifuddin said that Rukun Negara was established by then Agong Tunku Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Sultan Zainal Abidin on Aug 31, 1970, in order to save Malaysia by inculcating the spirit of unity among the people.
The minister said that the introduction of the Rukun Negara then was timely in light of the racial riots that hit the country on May 13, 1969.
He noted that the Rukun Negara formed part of Malaysia’s aspiration to achieve greater unity among all layers of society by safeguarding a democratic way of life, create a fair society whereby national prosperity can be enjoyed in a fair and equitable way, ensure a liberal approach to cultural traditions that is rich and diverse, and create a progressive society that utilise science and modern technology.
Saifuddin’s Facebook posting was uploaded in conjunction with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah’s official birthday celebration today. - Mkini
