CORONAVIRUS | Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today indicated that schools will be reopened in stages during the next recovery movement control order (MCO) phase beginning from June 10 to Aug 31.
"For parents with school-aged children, I'm sure all of you are anxious to find out when schools will be reopened.
"For your information, schools will be reopened in stages in this recovery movement control order period, upon advice from the Healthy Ministry," said Muhyiddin in a special live telecast address.
"The Education Ministry will be making a detailed announcement on the matter soon," he added.
Home-based teaching and learning have been ongoing as all schools and institutions of higher education were closed since March 18 at the beginning of the movement control order period.
Earlier this week, Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin said detailed guidelines for movement of students in the school compound - from the time they arrive until they leave for home - has been formulated in collaboration with the Health Ministry and the National Security Council.
At the time, it was reported that the move would only involve form five and six students in nearly 3,000 secondary schools nationwide.
Meanwhile, the Higher Education Ministry recently announced that new intakes for the 2020/2021 academic year will begin in stages from July 1, subjected to an end to the conditional MCO.
However, classes will remain to be conducted online until the end of the year, with certain exceptions for research students or courses that require access to facilities on campus.
