Sri Ram keeps mum again on Apandi's allegations

Malaysiakini

Special prosecutor Gopal Sri Ram today remained mum on former attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's claim that two years ago, Sri Ram allegedly tried to convince Apandi to arrest former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.
Former federal court judge Sri Ram (above), who is now leading the prosecution against Najib in a number of 1MDB-related cases, said "no comment" when approached after the adjournment of Najib's 1MDB audit report tampering case at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today.
Earlier, lead defence counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had informed the court about his application to disqualify Sri Ram as a special prosecutor in the audit report tampering case.
This is based on an affidavit made by Apandi against Sri Ram on June 12.
However, Shafee unsuccessfully sought to postpone the hearing until the application to disqualify Sri Ram is heard.
Prior to Apandi's affidavit, he had also uploaded similar allegations against Sri Ram on social media.
In a Facebook post, Apandi claimed that Sri Ram had approached him at his house in January 2018 under the instruction of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Apandi further claimed that Sri Ram told him that he would be a “hero in the eyes of the people" as well as being the "first attorney-general to arrest a sitting prime minister".
The alleged incident took place four months before BN was defeated in the 14th general election and Pakatan Harapan won the historic polls to become the then-new government.
Sri Ram had also refused to comment when the Facebook post first surfaced.
