Known for his stand critical of former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Pakatan Harapan, Universiti Utara Malaysia has reportedly banned its senior lecturer, Kamarul Zaman Yusoff, from making politically related posts on his social media platforms.
English-daily The Star quoted Kamarul Zaman as confirming that he had received a warning from UUM's administration on Wednesday after a report was lodged against an undisclosed posting of his.
"Yes, I was warned not to repeat it.
"If there is another report, action will be taken against me," said Kamarul Zaman who is attached to UUM's College of Law, Government and International Studies.
Kamarul Zaman previously said he did not have any problem with the university top brass or any other university management staff.
Several days after the 14th general election was held and Dr Mahathir Mohamad came to power as the seventh prime minister, Kamarul Zaman resigned from his position as director of UUM's Malaysian Institute of Political Research.
He had said at the time his move to resign was due to a perception that he was "anti-Mahathir" and this could cause difficulties for the university.
Kamarul Zaman's critical views gained prominence after Mahathir himself made a surprise appearance at a pre-GE14 public forum where Kamarul Zaman was speaking. - Mkini
